We are pleased to announce that our bio farm here in Mathiatis has received an award for Sustainable Development by Gastronomos – Kathimerini.
This award recognises our approach to bio and responsible farming practices, as well as wider sustainability, producing only the finest, fully certified organic eggs, as well as other organic agricultural produce.
Over the last decade, the annual Gastronomos Quality Awards brings into focus Cypriot producers and traders, who, with their courage, determination, dynamism and innovation continue to produce excellent local produce, inextricably linked to the nutritional and rich heritage of our island.
Behind every great product and business, however, are the people and their unique stories. Each year, these awards ultimately also recognise outstanding individuals and their contribution to gastronomy, agriculture and sustainable business. It is through peoples’ faith and vision, passion, hard work, respect for the environment, and awareness of social responsibility towards consumers and the community at large that we can continue to develop and thrive as a country.
The Gastronomos tasting and judging committee consists of leading local chefs, sommeliers, academics and experts in gastronomy, agricultural, food science, biotechnology and epidemiology, researchers, journalists and authors, consultant and entrepreneurs.
“We are honoured and proud to receive this award from Gastronomos - Kathimerini. To be recognised in the area of our primary vision and mission of sustainable, organic farming is very special and encouraging,” says our co-owner and manager George Constantinides.
“It is also of course vital that we continue to focus and support the farming industry here in Cyprus, so we can continue to produce as much as we can locally. Local produce is fresher, more nutritious and healthier. It is also more sustainable on a wider level, and can help our industry grow and become more competitive internationally.”
Ygea Farm is Member of European Union (EU) Infrastructure Development projects in Cyprus.
